The Activity Bank

The GIVE Activity Bank is a resource bank of short activities or skill-based tasks that already include supports and accommodations to meet a range of students’ needs. These activities can be easily added to your lesson—with small adjustments for your unique students and classroom—to make it more inclusive.

These activities have been submitted as is by New York City Teaching Artists from New Victory Theater, ArtsConnection, and Community-Word Project.

  • “Yes and” Character Creation

    Ages: Upper Elementary (3-5), Middle School (6-8), High School (9-12)
    Art Forms: Theater, Visual Arts

    Goals: To practice building on each other's ideas, collaborating and saying “yes and” to our classmates ideas/offers.

  • A Thank You Just For You

    Ages: Early Childhood (PK-2)
    Art Forms: Dance, Literary Arts, Media Arts, Music, Theater, Visual Arts

    Goal: Facilitate transition, create ritual, foster gratitude

  • Animal Monologues

    Ages: Middle School (6-8)
    Art Forms: Theater

    Goal: To introduce character development through a familiar concept like their favorite animal

  • Character Grill

    Ages: Middle School (6-8), High School (9-12)
    Art Forms: Literary Arts, Theater

    Goal: To invite students to fully inhabit and take full ownership of their developing characters before continuing their writing process. 

  • Creating Community Agreements

    Ages: Early Childhood (PK-2), Upper Elementary (3-5), Middle School (6-8), High School (9-12)
    Art Forms: Dance, Literary Arts, Media Arts, Music, Theater, Visual Arts

    Goal: To establish community guidelines and agreements.

  • Creativity Key

    Ages: Early Childhood (PK-2), Upper Elementary (3-5)
    Art Forms: Dance, Literary Arts, Media Arts, Music, Theater, Visual Arts

    Goal: To introduce word and concept of 'unlocking our creativity'.

  • Crescendo

    Ages: Early Childhood (PK-2), Upper Elementary (3-5)
    Art Forms: Music, Theater

    Goal: To warm up our bodies and voices in a silly way. To get to know each other's names through repetition.

  • Finding a Partner or Small Group

    Ages: Early Childhood (PK-2), Upper Elementary (3-5), Middle School (6-8), High School (9-12)
    Art Forms: Dance, Media Arts, Music, Theater

    Goal: Intentional ways to create pairs or small groups
